Arnold Schwarzenegger has not yet divorced his long-suffering wife, Maria Shriver, but he appears to be keen to send out a message about his marital status.

The 66-year-old Terminator star and former governor of California wore a black skull ‘divorce ring’ on his finger in place of a wedding band.

Journalist Shriver, a 58-year-old member of the influential Kennedy clan, filed for divorce from Schwarzenegger, with whom she has four children, in 2011 on the grounds of his adultery.

The couple have still not agreed on how their $400million fortune should be divided.

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby warned against military action in Syria last year, but his son Peter takes a more hawkish view of possible conflict with Vladimir Putin’s Russia over the Crimea.

‘I fear the Government would be wise to consider reversing some defence cuts,’ he says. ‘Just in case...’

Peter, 23, knows a thing or two about conflict. Last year he gave a dramatic account of being choked by tear gas and having a piece of gun shot land on his head during riots in Alexandria, Egypt, where he was studying Arabic.

You just can't keep a good Balding down

Trust a member of the Balding family to prove that when you fall off a horse, the only thing to do is get back up again.

Clare Balding’s father Ian, 75, who once trained racehorses for the Queen, came a cropper last Sunday while riding with the Berks and Bucks Draghounds, of which he has been president for almost a decade.

An ambulance had to be called to his estate at Kingsclere Park House in Newbury, Berkshire, where the drag hunt — where riders use hounds to track a laid scent — was taking place.

But as befits a man who, in his daughter’s autobiography My Animals And Other Family, at least, appears more a horse than a people person, he was quickly back in the saddle.

‘I can tell you he’s been riding two horses this morning, and is now at a funeral, so I think that shows that if anything, it was a very minor accident,’ a family friend told me.

Rebel vicar and a ring of defiance

Rebellious gay vicar Andrew Cain has been agonising about a very ‘complex’ matter.

The North London priest, 50, has vowed to defy a Church of England ban on clergy having same-sex weddings and plans to marry his civil partner, Stephen Foreshew, 40,  this summer.

But the subject on  Fr Andrew’s mind recently wasn’t the wrath of his bishop — it was what type of rings to buy, or whether to upgrade the couple’s partnership bands.

‘Going to choose wedding rings tomorrow,’ he told his Twitter followers. ‘Or rather diamonds to add to our wedding rings. It’s complex.’

After the husbands-to-be settled on new ones, he wrote: ‘Just bought our wedding rings. Platinum. Diamond-cut.’

The couple also had their civil partnership bands re-polished.

Bishops beware —  Fr Andrew, who keeps hens, does not suffer fools gladly.

He once caught a burglar and barred the crook’s way, ordering him to kneel and wait for the police.

Forgotten your heels?

Daphne Guinness is walking on air.

The 46-year-old brewing heiress, artist, model and designer kept her ankles well clear of New York’s street grime in a pair of heel-less platform shoes.

They were the perfect finish to her eccentric ensemble, which included a pink braid, furry shrug, hotpants, and tights designed to look like stockings and suspenders.

One question: did she forget she wasn’t in a nightclub?

Having married into the Royal Family and given birth to our future king, the Duchess of Cambridge can already boast of some remarkable achievements.

Kate has, however, let slip that she has a ‘bucket list’ of goals she wants to complete before she dies.

‘I have met Kate and William several times,’ says Sir Lockwood Smith, the High Commissioner of New Zealand, where the Duke and Duchess will undertake an official tour next month.

‘They are lovely. She said: “Visiting New Zealand is top of my bucket list”. She’s really looking forward to it.’

Until yesterday Jonty Claypole was the BBC’s head of arts.

But no more. From now on, he is cultural supremo of the — shout-it-from-the-rooftops — BBC ARTS.

Explaining the newly-uppercase moniker in a blogpost, Claypole says: ‘We’re treating it as a new brand within the BBC in the way we treat NEWS or SPORT. As of today, regardless of where a piece of output originates, if it is about the arts, it is part of something else, too.’

This waffle could have come straight out of BBC spoof satire, W1A.
