A MUM has told of her horror after a B&M lava lamp exploded while her toddler was sleeping.
After hearing a loud bang, Leanne Kemp, 30, from Ilkeston, found her one-year-old son, Amos, fast asleep but surrounded by shattered glass.
B&M has now launched an investigation into the incident.
"It was like a murder scene," Leanne told the Sun Online.
"There was red wax splattered all over the wall and his cot and my son was covered in glass. There was a huge piece right by his head.
"It was horrendous. We heard a really loud pop and then glass shattering and at first I thought it might be my fiance's glass of water falling off the side of his bed or something outside.
"But Paul jumped up straight away and ran straight into our son's room and there was glass and lava everywhere, all up the wall and all over the carpet.
"I was panicking. Luckily Amos was still wearing his blanket because it was splattered with the lava. He didn't wake either because by this time he was in a deep sleep.
"He normally kicks off his cover and thank goodness he didn't because it would have gone all over his pyjamas and probably seriously hurt him."
Leanne and her partner, Paul Meer, also have a seven-month-old daughter Elsie-Mae.
They bought their children the £9.99 lava lamps for Christmas from the budget store.
The lamp sits on top of a chest of draws in Amos' bedroom and his mum and dad been using it almost every night since January to help him go to sleep.
"We put it on about 7pm when Amos starts getting ready for bed and he went to bed around 8pm," Leanne said.
"We heard it explode at 8:45pm. There's no warning on the box about how long the lamps should be left on for so we thought it was safe. "
Almost everything in Amos' bedroom has been damaged by the wax, which exploded onto his toys, as well as the carpet, curtains, chest of drawers, cot and bedding.
Leanne now wants to warn other parents about the dangers of the lamp.
She uploaded the photos to Facebook after it happened earlier this week, where it's already been shared 2,490 times.
Leanne said: "Thankfully Amos was okay and not hurt but someone else who has the lamp might not be so lucky.
"Elsie-Mae's lamp is still in the box and there's no way we're going to be using it now."
The Sun Online asked B&M if it was planning on recalling the lamps but a spokesman said: "We're aware of the reported incident and it’s currently under investigation."
LATEST PRODUCT RECALLS
It's not the first time customers have taken it upon themselves to issue warnings about faulty B&M products.
One mother warned about her daughter's mirror from the bargain store that caught fire.
A year and a half ago, a six-year-old was left with a painful blistered and bleeding mouth after pulling the top off a B&M Santa lamp.
Often in instances like this, manufacturers and retailers may decide to recall the products to protect customers from dangerous goods.
You can check if a product you own has been recalled by looking at the Trading Standard's website.
