Sailor Jessica Watson speaks about her struggle with dyslexia

She first found fame after circumnavigating the southern hemisphere alone, at just 16 years old.

And Jessica Watson, 25, has spoken about her battle with dyslexia on The Daily Edition.

The Australian sailor said that whilst she's struggled with the condition, she's sees it as a positive, after writing her own book.

Jessica said that being dyslexic has been an advantage for her, saying: 'It helps me think differently and that has got to be a good thing.'

She said that growing up, her mother would read her stories to help her. 

'My incredible mum really made a big effort to read to me and my siblings to help me through those early years of school where I was struggling,' Jessica said.

'There were all these bedtime stories and I fell in love with books and stories.'

Nine years on from her successful round the world voyage, the blonde beauty has also accomplished writing her first novel called Indigo Blue. 

'I kind of always knew that I wanted to be part of that world in some way or another, so they have been a huge inspiration for me,' she said.

Speaking about her book, she said: 'There's no surprise of course it's based around sailing.'

'I think what has surprised people is it's a bit of a fairy tale and there is a bit of fantasy throughout the book.'

Her book surrounds itself around a young female character named Alex, who buys herself a yacht.
