A Pennsylvania high school athletics trainer has been charged with supplying alcohol to former students before one of them caused a fatal DUI crash hours later that killed an 18-year-old boy.

Kelsey Martin, 35, befriended 19-year-old Connor Quinn and several of his classmates while the teens were still students at Owen J. Roberts High School in Pottstown, and kept in touch after they graduated, Montgomery County prosecutors say.

Just after midnight on August 10, Quinn drove two of his former classmates and a friend who had attended another school to Martin's house, where she allegedly provided the four teens with Miller Light beers, prosecutors say.

Just a few hours later at 5am, Quinn lost control of his Acura sedan while speeding and crashed into a utility pole in North Coventry Township, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Louis Carbajal, an 18-year-old recent graduate of nearby Spring-Ford High School, was not wearing his seatbelt and was thrown from the car in the impact. The star high school wrestler later died at Reading Hospital.

The powerful impact split the car in half, and responding police said the inside of the wreckage was strewn with empty beer cans.

Martin has been charged with six counts of furnishing alcohol to minors.

Quinn, also a former standout high school wrestler, was arrested in November 2020 - months after the crash - and charged with one count of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and reckless endangerment.

Authorities say he had a blood-alcohol level of .176 percent at the time of the crash - which is over two times the legal limit for those 21 and older.

Court documents show that the two other teens - Daniel Benasutti and Benjamin Bulich - were cited for transporting alcohol while underage.

One of the teens, who police did not identify, allegedly told detectives that it was the second time he had been given alcohol at Martin's residence, with the previous occasion having occurred after graduation.

The teen claimed that he and another former student of Martin's had slept over at the trainer's house the first night they had drank together, police say.

Dr. Will Stout, superintendent of Owen J. Roberts School District, said in a statement: 'The safety of students and our schools is our foremost concern.

'At this time, we have not been made aware, or have any reason to believe, that any of our current students were supplied alcohol by Ms. Martin.

'We will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement and will assist in any way needed.

'When we first learned that the employee in question was under investigation in April, she was immediately placed on leave and removed from all student contact.'

A preliminary hearing for Martin is scheduled for August 12, nearly a year to the day after the fatal crash that cost Carbajal his life.

Quinn's criminal case is still pending in nearby Chester County, according to the Inquirer. His bail was set at $100,000.

A GoFundMe created on behalf of Carbajal's family created shortly after his passing has already surpassed the $10,000 donation goal as of Tuesday afternoon.
