Lenny Hochstein has filed for divorce from the Real Housewives of Miami star after 12 years of marriage. The two confirmed their split on May 16. The formal paperwork filed by Lenny cites "irreconcilable differences" as the reason why he and and Lisa have broken up.

Lisa and Lenny share two children (who were welcomed via surrogate while RHOM was off air): Logan, 6, and Elle, 2. Lenny also stated in the filing that he will "fully provide for all of the children's needs" and added he'd like "frequent time-sharing" of the children.

Through a spokesperson, Lisa told PEOPLE that she was "blindsided" by Lenny's public announcement.

"With two young children involved, as a mom I'm going to focus all of my energy and time on them," she said, criticizing her estranged husband's "reckless handling of the situation."

Lenny confirmed the divorce to PEOPLE as well, noting that the reason for the split would "be kept private." At the time, he said lawyers were drafting the official divorce paperwork.

Hochstein told PEOPLE he is in a new relationship with model Katharina Mazepa.

"Nothing happened between [Katharina and I] until [Lisa and I] decided on the divorce," he said, "and Lisa was aware of my plans before anything happened between Katharina and myself."

"I am a single Black female. I am, I'm a single Black female but I'm not a crazy one like in the movie," she said on the podcast, referring to the TV movie that is inspired by 1992's stalker film Single White Female.

Reps for the pair did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. TMZ was first to report the news.

The couple later released a joint statement about their split on April 11.

"It is after 30 years, five amazing children and a lifetime of memories, we have decided to go our separate ways — not with sadness, but with love in our hearts," reads the statement issued by the couple via a family representative exclusively to PEOPLE. "We have grown up together, raised a family we can be so proud of, and it is now time to create our own paths."

"We will always be family and look forward to a continued and loving shared experience as friends and parents. We have not come to this decision lightly or quickly but with so much going on in the world, we wanted to provide some clarity and closure, so we can remain focused on what is important," continues the statement. "With Love and Hope… Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus."

"After 12 years on an adventure through life together Tom and I are ending our marriage. This ending is not met with resentment or animosity, no sides to choose. We have deep admiration for one another that will always remain and we cherish our friendship."

She added, "Although we may be on different paths we will continue to love and support one another's happiness. Thank you for all the kind words and support."

Schwartz's heartfelt message expressed that he "fully respect[s] Katie's decision" and that "it would be far sadder if she decided to stay with me whilst not happy."

"This might sound abrupt but I felt I should be transparent from the top rather than bury the headline," he wrote on March 5. "This was not a rash or impulsive decision. We have been very thoughtful before coming to this conclusion."

"It was not a lack of love but rather the two of us growing in different directions and wanting very different things for ourselves," Flagg continued. "I care deeply about Bobby and have nothing but love and respect for him. I want how we separate from each other to represent that."

Following Flagg's announcement, Boyd posted a statement of his own to his Instagram page.

"And now, today, we both go on our new journeys,"Boyd wrote. "This may be the end of our romantic relationship, but I'll always consider him part of my family."

"It doesn't mean that there's something wrong with either of us," she added. "It's just a matter of finding someone who you can stand the test of time with."
