It's common for cats to sleep in the most unconventional places, but one, in particular, has recently gone viral for lounging in a very unusual but also rather comfortable place.
In a hilarious clip shared on TikTok on Wednesday by the cat's owner, under the username @ullylastar, the tabby kitty, called Ully, can be seen lounging on a custom hammock placed on top of a drying rack, right next to the radiator, and with a full view of the Christmas tree, to get in all the holiday cheer.
If you're a cat owner you've probably noticed your furbaby sleeping in spots that any human would find uncomfortable. Cats may be napping in the oddest places for several reasons, according to pet-wellness experts at PetKeen.
If it's too hot, the pets may be trying to get the coldest spot to cool their body temperature down. At the same time, if it's too cold, they could be looking to get some warmth. Among other reasons, cats may also be sleeping in places that, even though look very uncomfortable to us, help them feel safer and sleep better.
Adult cats sleep an average of 16 hours a day, while newborn kittens can spend all 24 hours sleeping, according to Oakland Veterinary Services. Cats mostly sleep to conserve energy because, as hunters, that's a behavior they have inherited from their bigger ancestors.
They also sleep for other reasons. It may be because they are tired, or to help regulate body temperature, as well as for pleasure.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 5.1 million views and 800,000 likes on the platform.
